Artists to Watch For

Posted In: Music, Rick's Blog by Rick Hall

Greetings fellow blogster,

I wanted to post one last update before I head on a jet plane headed towards Tucson, Arizona for my vacation. Last I checked, the Weather Channel said “Sunny with a high near 70.” I can live with that!

I’m going to do my best to reinstitute my list of artists to watch out for. These are artists/bands/songwriters that I’ve been into over the past few weeks:

(In no particular order…)

1. Magnet — I hate buying a cd when I know absolutley nothing about an artist. I took a chance on this guy. I listened to the ten second hooks on iTunes and I was sold. I totally don’t regret buying this mellow cd. The whole album is very mellow. Beware if that’s not your taste…
2. Family Force 5 — Similar sound as Fall Out Boy. Their new radio single, “Replace Me” is killer!
3. The Fray — I just bought their album on iTunes. I can’t get “Vienna” out of my head.
4. Shawn McDonald — I’ve received confirmation from his record label that his new cd will be out by 3.7.06. The new radio single, “Free” is absolutley amazing. This cd might top his first.
5. Mainstay — I’ll admit it. I’ve only heard one song from this band. Their new radio single entitled “Take Away” is amazing. It reminds me a little bit of Howie Day and Mae.
6. Cartel — Thanks to “Nate the Great” for the heads up on this one…good stuff!

Let me know who you think should be added to my list…

Hopefully we’ll chat next week. See ya!

Here’s *NBC’s Midseason Schedule as of January 2: *(new series in italics)

*Mondays*: Surface, Las Vegas, Medium
*Tuesdays*: Fear Factor, Scrubs, Scrubs, L&O: SVU
*Wednesdays*: E-Ring, Biggest Loser: Special Edition (new title), L&O
*Thursdays*: Will & Grace, /Four Kings/, My Name is Earl, The
Office, ER
*Fridays*: /Most Outrageous TV Moments/, Dateline NBC,
/Book of Daniel/
*Saturdays*: Movies and stuff
*Sundays*: Dateline NBC, West Wing, L&O: CI, Crossing Jordan

Note that “Three Wishes” is not on the schedule, and “Book of Daniel”
(which is about a drug-addicted priest played by Aidan Quinn) is. “Fear Factor” also returns. I’m afraid NBC is determined to be done with Amy…no matter how many fans the show has.

You might not know this…but I’m a closet fan of Amy Grant. I’m sure if word got out…I’d be publicly humiliated! Regardless of whether or not you’re a fan of her music I thought it would be important to point out that her TV show, Three Wishes has been cancelled. Here’s the bulletin from AmyGrant.com…

We are sorry to tell you that, as reported in today’s issue of Variety, NBC has rescinded its earlier order for six more episodes of THREE WISHES. Cited, as the main reason, was a tightening budget at NBC that could not justify the large cost of producing this show to the standard that was acceptable to all involved.

The last two remaining shows of the 2005 season are scheduled to air on December 2nd and 9th 9/8c. We would, of course, ask for your support of these final two shows and would love, with a high rating, to remind NBC that there are many people out there who support this type of programming that is safe for the whole family.

We have great respect and appreciation for our many friends at NBC and at Glassman Media who made it possible for Amy to be a part of something very rare – a network television show that literally changed the lives of some very deserving people. For that we will always be grateful.

If you are disappointed in this news and believe that a quality show like Three Wishes belongs on the air, please write or email NBC and voice your support for the show.

The email address is: threewishes@nbcuni.com

The mailing address is: NBC 3000 West Alameda Ave. Burbank, CA 91523 attn: THREE WISHES
