Paula, you’re so busted!

Paula Abdul, consider yourself warned!  I’ve got you figured out!

The people managing Paula Abdul’s career are winning big this week!  In fact, I’d love hire
them for my career.  She quit her job with American Idol on Friday, which was all over news headlines.  Just yesterday, the President of the ABC television network was quoted as saying that he would love to have Paula on his network’s popular show, Dancing with the Stars.  Again, Paula’s name was all over news headlines.

Today, Paula’s PR people strike again!  She’s going to be on Letterman tonight (CBS-2, 10:35P CT).  Maybe we’ll learn more about what her post Idol plans entail.

One thing’s for sure … you couldn’t pay for all of this publicity!

Although we’ve yet to receive an official word as to what caused the death of Michael Jackson, we do know a bit more about that proposed movie about Jackson.

On Monday, a court in LA approved a 60-million-dollar agreement that allows Columbia Pictures to make a movie from rehearsal video taken as Jackson prepared for concerts in London.  The judge also okayed the release of Michael’s autobiography as well.

  • Last night, FOX aired clips from Sunday night’s TEEN CHOICE AWARDS.  Without a doubt, the biggest winners of the night were those behind the movie Twilight, picking up over 11 awards.Britney Spears sure hasn’t lost her following, as she was appointed the award as “Ultimate Choice” among teens, which recognizes her body of work as a recording artist.Other big winners included FRESH artist Miley Cyrus, Black Eyed Peas, Kanye West, The Jonas Brothers, and Sean Kingston.
  • Set your DVR for Green Day’s apperance on Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC-5, 12:35AM).

Chicago’s Very Own Elvis

Although the king himself, Elvis Presley has come and gone, his legacy continues.  All this week, Memphis TN is celebrating Elvis Week, featuring Elvis impersonators, Elvis displays at the Graceland Plaza, Elvis Week artist contests, and even Elvis Bingo at the Heartbreak Hotel.

Back home in Chicago, disgraced Ex-Governor Rod Blagojevich, twice elected by the people, I must point out, celebrated his Elvis love in his own special way.  In the following video, Blago jumped on stage, took over the mic, and began to sing “Treat me Nice.”   At one point, he unbuttoned his shirt and flipped up his collar.  Patty B. would be so proud!

You do have to admit, however, that he does fit the part!  Click here and check out a side-by-side shot of Elvis and Rod, courtesy of the Chicago Sun-Times.

Poor Elvis.

  • Count yourself lucky if you have not been affected by all of the changes in the banking industry.  It has gotten so bad that congress had to pass a consumer-protection law that goes into play February 2010.  Some however, believe the credit card companies are trying to ’sock it to us’ now, while they still can.If you carry credit card debit or have a credit card in your wallet right now, you should really check out this article in today’s issue of the Chicago Sun-Times.

A little later today, you can can check out the All-American Rejects on Ellen (3p CT, NBC-5 Chicago) and Fall Out Boy on Jimmy Fallon (11:35PM CT, NBC-5 Chicago).

  • So, what’s Paula Abdul to do, now that she’s unemployed?  The president of ABC Entertainment, Stephen McPherson, says he’s ready to roll out the welcome mat to her.  During the Television Critics Association press tour Saturday in Pasadena, California, McPherson was asked what he thought about Abdul joining ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars.”

He responded, saying, quote, “Absolutely, I would love that.”  McPherson has already talked to Abdul once since she revealed that she was leaving her post at “Idol” and said she sounded “good.”  He says there are still no formal plans involving Abdul for “Dancing With The Stars,” but that, quote, “all possibilities are open.”According to UsMagazine.com, McPherson raved about Abdul and how she would fit in at “DWTS,” saying, quote, “I think she’s a huge talent.  I think there’s a lot made of her in terms of who she is. There’s a sensitivity and an emotion to her that balances out ‘Idol’ and we’d love to have a piece of that.”

Early Wakeup Call!

FRESH 105.9 (WCSF-FM) LogoStarting Monday (8/10), I’ll be moving to a new time slot on FRESH 105.9.  Instead of hosting afternoons, I’ll be covering the work-day shift, which means you can hear me between 10AM and 4PM.

My days of noon wakeup calls are over, so I guess I need to buy an alarm clock this weekend.

Really Chicago Public Schools, really?

On Tuesday, CPS along with our beloved city crook, uh I mean mayor, Richard M. Daley, announced that CPS alum Jeremih, has joined the efforts to get Chicago youth back-to-school this fall.

I applaud CPS for their efforts, however their methods are flawed.  Jeremih’s claim to “fame” is his song, entitled “Birthday Sex,” which features the following lyrics:

“Girl you know I, don’t need candles and cake, just need your body to make Birthday Sex …

We ridin’ with passion cause it’s your birthday
Been at it for hours, i know you thirsty
you kiss me sweetly, taste just like hershey’s
Just tell me how you want you gift, girl”

For even more fun, check out the music video.

Real appropriate for these grade school age students, many under the age  of 18.  Of the millions of students who have attended Chicago Public Schools over the past century, was Jeremih really the greatest pop culture “icon” that you could come up with?

Official response from the district?  “Jeremih is a musician. His music is no different from all other music our kids listen to,” said Ron Huberman, CEO of Chicago Public Schools. “Kids are using social network sites like Twitter, MySpace and Facebook to communicate with one another, so it makes sense to have a young alumni like Jeremih use the site to reach out to students,” he said.

When asked about the CPS back-to-school initiative, Delilah Johnson, 22, a junior at DePaul University and 2005 alum of Percy L. Julian High School, had something great to say.  “If the teachers don’t expect anything better than what Jeremih is singing about in these lyrics, that’s an insult to us.”

Those against the ’Birthday Sex Back-to-School Drive’ are planning on protesting outside of CPS headquarters, schools, and facilities, which sounds like a fantastic idea to me.  However, others are out of their minds in my opinion, by encouraging parents to keep their kids out of schools as a result of this CPS debacle.  Encouraging kids to stay out of school is never a good idea.

So, what’s the solution?  CPS needs a new song!  May I make a suggestion?

  • Well, it’s official!  No more texting while driving!  Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed into law a measure that will ban Illinois drivers from sending text messages while driving in an effort to cut down on distracted driving.  The law also prohibits drivers from reading texts, surfing the web, and downloading ring tones.Downloading ring tones?  Seriously?  Is downloading ring tones while driving really that big of an issue here in Illinois?
